Product description
Coins known as ducats have existed in Europe since the 13th century. In Austria, they have been minted since the 16th century. Today, the term ducat generally refers to restrikes produced by the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich), featuring Emperor Franz Joseph I and the date 1915, the last year in which the historical ducat was minted. The reverse of the gold coin depicts the Habsburg double-headed eagle. The coin is made of gold with a fineness of 986/1000. The name “ducat” derives from the Latin word “ducatus”, meaning “duchy”. The single ducat has a diameter of 19.75 mm and a fine gold content of 3.44 g, while the quadruple ducat has a diameter of 39.5 mm and a fine gold content of 13.77 g.
The 1914 ducat is a historical original issue, distinguishing it from the later restrikes dated 1915. The coin is in extremely fine condition. Please refer to the photographs of the actual coin.
